PLACE = Farmington, MN

DATE =    May 12, 1918

          This obituary was written about William H. Watson and was placed in the "Tribune" a local newspaper.

W. H. Watson, an old and much respected citizen of Dakota County died from meningitis, the result of an apoplectic stroke after a short illness at 2 A.M. Wednesday.  His health has not been of the best for some years, but he was able to be around and was at the train the day the troops went through.  He was outdoors for the last time on May 1st.

Deceased was born at Limington, ME, Dec. 4, 1824, and was one of the seven children, the last surviving.  He married in 1850 and, in 1856, came to Minnesota with his family, settling on the Watson place in Lakeville township where he lived till coming to Farmington, Minnesota.  During his residence in Dakota County, he has held the office of town supervisor and assessor and, in his school district, has frequently been clerk.  He was a Republican in politics.  In 1853 he joined the Free Will Baptist Church at Saco, ME.  The funeral was held at the late residence in Farmington at 2 P.M. today.

Mr. Watson belonged to that sturdy race of pioneers which makes the strength of New England and whose coming to the West has been so helpful in its development.  He was a man of sterling integrity, generally respected and loved in the community and it is with regret that the Tribune reports his demise.  The sympathy of the community goes out to the surviving family, Mrs. Watson and the two daughters, Orinda, wife of Monroe Harris and Miss Hattie M. Watson, the popular teacher in our high school.
