"Eldest Lady Here - Mrs. Jennie Watson is 90"
The picture to the right was published with the article.
Early risers this summer who have passed the corner of Sixth and Walnut here, have noticed a local lady working on her lawn, enjoying the practice of keeping up her yard.
She was Mrs. Jennie Watson, who will celebrate her 90th birthday, March 1st.
Although she has been ill with pneumonia recently, she has recovered, and is looking forward to passing the 90 mark. It is believed she is Farmington's oldest resident.
She keeps herself busy during the winter, by reading, or making rugs and working on quilts. She will not have an open house, but would enjoy some company Friday and Saturday, she says.
Born in a log cabin at Jordan, Minn., Mrs. Watson was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ransom Norton. Her father bought a farm between Lakeville and Farmington when she was eight years old. (Her memory is excellent).
Seventy one years ago in November she married Frank Watson, who passed away 22 years ago. Fifty seven years ago they moved to their present house where Mrs. Watson now resides with her daughter Grace.
Mrs. Watson was the mother of eight children, five of whom are still living. They are:
- Lenora Watson (Mrs. Bert Larson) of South Dakota
- Earl Watson of Gorham, Maine
- Grace Watson of Farmington, MN
- Florence Watson (Mrs Lenmark) of Hillsboro, Oregon
- Marjorie Watson (Mrs. McQuiston) of St. Paul, MN
The community extends heartiest congratulations and birthday greetings to our eldest resident.
