MILITARY = John fought in the Civil War and was enlisted with the "4th Minnesota Infantry" as a Corporal on September 26, 1861. His first assignment was grave detail to bury the nearly 3000 dead who fell at the battle of Shiloh. John was also in the Sanitary Corps (did cleanup when the patients were fit for duty). He was eventually promoted to Full Sergeant on Jan 1, 1863.
